What You Need

Whether you're gathering around a physical table or connecting virtually, playing with a large party or a small band of Hunters, this section lays out the essentials you need to kickstart your adventure. Here's what you need for your first hunt:

  • Players: You'll need at least two players: one as the Overseer and one as a Hunter. The system works best with three Hunters, but an Overseer can adjust challenges for larger or smaller groups.

  • Rulebook: Ensure at least one copy of this guide is accessible during play. A thorough understanding of the rules among all players makes for a smoother and more enjoyable experience. Consider using this digital version for easy searching and bookmarking.

  • Dice: You'll need a set of standard polyhedral dice (4_ON_D4, 6_ON_D6, 8_ON_D8, 10_ON_D10, 12_ON_D12, 20_ON_D20). Two ten-sided dice are especially handy, since they make up your most common roll. If physical dice aren't available, digital rollers are great alternatives.

  • Shared Space: During combat, a shared visual space can enhance gameplay. Our combat system emphasizes positioning and varied attack patterns, so visualizing the battlefield is helpful. Consider a virtual tabletop, a dry-erase grid, printable battle mats, or graph paper.

  • Note-taking Tools: Both Overseers and Hunters benefit from note-taking tools. Keeping track of details, character traits, clues, and plot points enriches the narrative and can be invaluable. Use a physical notebook, a note-taking app, or a shared online document for easy collaboration.
