Our Philosophy
Obscured is designed for dangerous investigations and combat where choices have real consequences. To keep the tension high, we prioritize decisive rulings at the table. When players attempt something unexpected, you don't need to pause the game to hunt down a perfect precedent. Make a fair, logical call based on the situation and keep the session moving.
The mechanics and systems in this book exist to provide a consistent shared environment. Use them when they add pressure and establish stakes. However, when a strict application of the rules gets in the way of the narrative, you have the authority to bend them. The systems serve the game, not the other way around.
A rule can tell you how far a thing can jump. It cannot tell you why it waited outside your apartment for three nights before doing it. Learn the rules so you know what they protect. Break them only when you know what will crawl through the gap.
