Language

The language a Horror speaks can add depth to its character and create intriguing interactions with the Hunters. Horror languages can range from conventional languages, such as English, French, or Mandarin, to the more exotic and unconventional tongues unique to the world of Obscured.

While some Horrors might communicate in human languages, many possess their own unique dialects. An Abyssal entity might speak the 'Voice of the Void', a maddening language of the deep sea. A spectral Horror could whisper in 'Etherean', the language capable of crossing the boundary between life and the afterlife.

Assigning unconventional languages to your Horrors can enhance the atmosphere and immersion of your game. It could also create interesting challenges for the Hunters. Perhaps they need to decipher the alien 'Grey' language to understand a warning or find an interpreter who speaks the cryptic 'Dearth' language of demons.

Example

Overseer: "Hey Jason, I'm creating this Horror from the underground, and I want it to speak a unique language, any suggestions?"

Jason: "Well, how about 'Basal'? It's a slithering tongue used by creatures living beneath the earth's crust. It could add a unique flair to your Horror."

Overseer: "Sounds creepy... I like it! It's going to be fun watching the Hunters try to communicate with it."

Jason: "Exactly, it will make for a more memorable encounter. Just make sure there's a way for them to translate it, otherwise it might get frustrating."

Remember, assigning languages to Horrors is not just a cosmetic detail. It can be an integral part of your narrative, providing hooks for quests, adding depth to your Horror characters, and creating unique challenges for your Hunters.
