Travel
In a world cloaked in darkness, travel isn't just about distance; it's a test of endurance and a window into the unknown. What lurks in the shadows? Will the journey be long enough to drive you over the edge? Traveling on foot, a Hunter can comfortably cover ground for up to 8 hours in a day without suffering any adverse effects. Pushing beyond this limit, however, will lead to fatigue, adding a point of fatigue for each additional hour of travel.
The terrain and weather conditions Hunters traverse can impact their travel speed. Harsh weather conditions, such as heavy rain, snow, or wind, can slow a Hunter's travel speed by 25%. Similarly, navigating through treacherous terrain, like dense forests, rocky mountains, or swampy marshes, can further reduce travel speed by up to 50%.
Consider the travel speed and its effects on your Hunter's awareness and stealth:
Travel Speed | Per Minute | Per Hour | Per day | Effect |
---|---|---|---|---|
Fast | 440 ft | 5 mi | 40 mi | Hunters have -5 awareness |
Average | 260 ft | 3 mi | 24 mi | - |
Slow | 175 ft | 2 mi | 16 mi | Hunters can sneak |
A group's travel speed is determined by the slowest member, and an Overseer should consider the implications of this when planning their adventures.
Overseer: "The path ahead is shrouded in dense fog swirls like phantom tendrils, and the ground beneath your feet gives way to jagged black stones. What pace do you want to set for your travel?"
David: "We should go slow. We have no idea what could be lurking in this fog. Plus, I wouldn't mind sneaking past any unwanted encounters."
Amy: "I agree. No need to rush into a situation we can't see clearly."
John: "Alright, slow it is! But if we find a roadside burger joint in this fog, I'm making a sprint for it!"
Remember, every terrain choice, every decision about pace is a risk. Move too fast, and you'll miss vital clues. Move too slowly, and the Horror might overtake you before you reach your destination.
