Core Attributes
In the world of Obscured, each Hunter is unique, with their strengths and abilities reflecting their chosen archetype. A critical concept in understanding these differences is the Core Attribute (CA) and the associated Core Modifier (CM). Each archetype has a designated CA, and the CM is the modifier for this attribute. The CA and CM play a pivotal role in a Hunter's effectiveness, influencing their attack rolls, the number of ability charges they have, and the damage they can inflict.
Furthermore, Hunters have a Core Threshold (CT), a value that represents the difficulty for others to resist or mitigate the effects of their abilities. The CT is calculated by adding 11 to their CM. In practical terms, the higher the CT, the more challenging it is for adversaries to withstand the Hunter's abilities.
Understanding your archetype's CA and CT is vital, because it helps you understand what your Hunter excels at, how they interact with the world, and the kind of threats they will best be able to counter.
CT = 11 + CM
Amy: "So, as a Temporal Traveler, my core attribute is Dexterity, right? And if my Dexterity modifier is +3, then my core threshold would be..."
Overseer: "Exactly, Amy. Your core threshold would be 14. It's the base of 11 plus your core modifier of +3. So, when you use your time-bending abilities, Horrors will have a hard time targeting you."
